PORTLAND, ME - All eight available Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, scored in double-figures, including two who notched double-doubles, and the Knicks topped the Eastern Conference second-leading Maine Red Claws, 116-106, Friday evening at Portland Expo Building.
Westchester (15-15) bested the Red Claws' (20-8) scoring in each quarter and maintained a lead for all but 73 seconds in the contest. Amir Hinton, on the connection from Tyler Hall, scored right at the cup for the Knicks final go-ahead basket at the 5:20 mark of the second quarter, 44-43. The game's fifth and final tie came with 4.4 ticks pictured on the second quarter timer but a buzzer beating right wing heave by VJ King would eliminate the even playing field, 61-58.
Ivan Rabb posted his team-leading 12th double-double of the season registering team-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Hall's 15 points accompanied a personal superlative 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. The guard also drained five treys and dished five dimes. King's career-high 17 points came in his first career start. Tim Bond distributed six helpers and scored 14 points.
For the hosts, Trey Davis fired off 30 points on 55-percent shooting which included four three-pointers off the bench. Jaysean Paige tallied 16 points and Sheldon Jeter collected a team-high 10 rebounds. Tremont Water's nine assists were best on the night.
The win boosts Westchester back to a .500 team which is just the second time the team has achieved that feat this season.
Westchester closes out a back-to-back tomorrow at the Westchester County Center. The action with intrastate rival, Long Island, begins at 7 PM.
