
Shorebirds One-Hit Alley Cats

(SALISBURY, MD.) -- For the second time this season the Delmarva Shorebirds shutout the Charleston Alley Cats on one-hit, winning 1-0 Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Shorebirds starter John Maine (4-1) continued his dominance of the Cats. The right-hander from UNC-Charlotte went seven and two-thirds innings, allowed just one hit, and struck out a season-high 11. Maine, who started on opening night at Watt Powell Park, has now hurled twelve and two-thirds scoreless innings against Charleston. He has allowed one hit and struck out 18 in that span.
Charleston (15-19) starter Vince Perkins locked horns with Maine for the first six innings. Perkins allowed only a bunt single by Bryan Bass in the first innings. He walked two and struck out seven. It was the fifth time in seven starts that Perkins has not allowed a run.
Delmarva (18-16) broke the scoreless deadlock in the seventh inning off of Felix Romero (1-2). Neil Stephenson doubled with one out. Gerardo Alvarez's single into right field scored the only run of the game. Romero worked one inning, and suffered the loss.
Jeff Montani worked a perfect ninth inning for the Shorebirds to pick up his seventh save of the season.
The only hit of the game for the Alley Cats was a two-out single in the fifth inning by Rodney Medina.
The Shorebirds have now taken all six meetings of the year between the two clubs. Charleston has scored a total of nine runs in the six losses.
The two teams meet again Friday night at 6:35 pm. Sandy Nin (1-2, 1.77 ERA) will face Daniel Cabrera (0-3, 5.57 ERA).
