Shootout Win Before Record Crowd

Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa pulled a win out of the fire on Friday night; they beat Peterborough 4-3, needing a shootout and six shooters to do it. The Generals led 3-0 in regulation, before the Petes scored 3 unanswered, putting the outcome in jeopardy. Bradley Latour buried the shootout winner before a record crowd of 6,269 at the General Motors Centre.

The Generals dominated the first, outshooting the Petes 17-7 on their way to a 2-0 lead. Newly acquired General, Justice Dundas, made an impact right away, scoring on his second shift of the game. Finishing off the cycle, Dundas wired a blast through Michael Giugovaz for his first goal as a General at 2:10. Dundas' 6th made it 1-0 Oshawa.

Giugovaz kept Peterborough in the game, making a number of stellar saves on numerous Generals' scoring chances. Still, Oshawa's top line proved too much for the goaltender, with Michael Dal Colle cashing in for his 10th of the season at 11:07. Capitalizing on a mad scramble out front, Dal Colle buried the backhand for a 2-0 Oshawa lead.

Daniel Altshuller made his 12th straight start in goal and was big when called upon, making a late-frame, pad save on Clark Seymour.

In the second, Oshawa extended their lead on the power-play, but Peterborough responded with 2 unanswered goals, tightening the score to 3-2.

Working with a 2-man-advantage, Boone Jenner scored his 3rd goal in 2 nights for his 30th of the season at 9:17. Firing from down low, Oshawa's captain found the far side corner, making it 3-0 Oshawa.

Stephen Nosad cracked the ice for Peterborough, hopping on a rebound in the slot at 13:48. Now 3-1 Oshawa, the Petes continued the momentum swing on the power play at 17:38. Trailing the play perfectly, Nick Czinder backhanded a rebound top-shelf, narrowing Oshawa's edge to the slimmest of margins, 3-2.

Oshawa's lead evaporated 2:58 into the third. Peeling off the boards, Stephen Pierog unleashed a low wrist-shot through traffic from the top of the left circle, tying the game at 3.

The Generals had their chances in the final frame; Matt Petgrave went end-to-end shorthanded and Tyler Biggs had a golden opportunity from the slot. Still, regulation solved nothing, sending the game to overtime, followed by a shootout.

The shootout was a nail-biter, needing 12 shooters to settle the score.

Bradley Latour finally ended it, sealing the deal by roofing it over Giugovaz for the 4-3 win.

Will Petschenig garnered the first star selection with 2 assists while Boone Jenner was named 3rd star.

The Generals outshot the Petes, 41-23.

Oshawa's next home game is this Sunday January 13th against the Windsor Spitfires at the General Motors Centre. It's a matinee with puck drop scheduled for 2:05 PM. See you there!
