Lone Star Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - For the second straight evening the Topeka RoadRunners escaped with a one-goal victory over the Brahmas, but this time they needed a shootout.
The Brahmas largely dominated the first period after a Cody Wickline tally set the tone just four minutes in. Play was setup by Alex Berardinelli, who somehow corralled the puck to the right of Tyler Johnson, sent it out high to Union commit Brandon Estes who then rifled it on net, just catching a piece of #16.
Later in the frame, Joey Fallon found the back of the cage just seconds after he made a nifty play to tie up his man on the face-off dot. Martin Mellberg was credited with an assist.
The second frame it was the RoadRunners turn to strike twice as Carlos Fornaris recorded two helpers setting up both Dominic Lutz and Tyler Hayes. It was truly all Topeka, as Lone Star was not able to muster a single shot on goal during that same second period.
No scoring emerged in the third period or overtime which sent the two teams to a shootout, the second of the season for the Brahmas. None of the three shooters were able to crack the case of Johnson, and unfortunately on the other end Cam Strong put one past Kaczperski to put the nail in the coffin.
Kaczperski's moves to 1-1-1 in his early Brahmas tenure, as the team now slides to 4-1-2.
The seven game road trip to start the season has now concluded and the Brahmas will finally return to the friendly confines to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday night for their home opener. Tickets are still available here, or call the box office 817-336-4ICE.
