Shootout Kind to IceHogs This Time Around

Rockford, Ill.- For the third time in five games the Rockford IceHogs faced a shootout. This time, however, the results went in favor of the Hogs, as they knocked off the Kalamazoo Wings 3-2 at Wings Stadium to extend their club-record unbeaten streak to 12 games (8-0-4).

After a scoreless first period, Kalamazoo grabbed the 1-0 lead. Winger Tyler Rennette shot in a centering pass from Tyler Willis at 9:07 to give the Wings the lead. Rockford tied the score on the power play later in the second period after defenseman Corey Hessler blasted home his seventh goal of the season at 17:35. Then just 39 seconds later, Rockford winger Bruce Watson found the back of the net to put Rockford on top 2-1.

In the third period Kalamazoo tied the contest and eventually sent it to a shootout. Rennette tipped a Mike Dombkiewicz shot past Michel Robinson at 14:29 to even the score at 2-2. In the shootout, the Hogs outscored the Wings 2-0, getting goals from winger Greg Barber (round 2) and rookie center Yannick Tifu (round 4) to ice the game.

The shootout win is Rockford's third on the season. Robinson made 27 saves, out-dueling Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin who made 21 saves. The Hogs finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play and held the Wings to 0-for-5.
