Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Alexi Amarista had two hits and three RBIs, while Matt Shoemaker tossed his second straight gem, as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took down the Lancaster JetHawks on Friday night, winning 4-2 at The Epicenter.
Shoemaker (4-3), who pitched a complete-game victory in his last start, took a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning, in winning his second straight start. The right-hander allowed two runs, just one earned, over seven innings.
The Quakes gave Shoemaker some early run support, as Alexi Amarista's two-run homer to right field, his third of the year, put the Quakes up 2-0 against Lancaster starter Shane Wolf (3-4).
Amarista struck again in the fifth, as his RBI single plated Tyson Auer for a 3-0 lead.
Beau Brooks capped the Quakes' scoring, as he blasted his third home run of the year in the sixth, a solo shot to make it 4-0.
The JetHawks finally got on the board for their first runs of the series, scoring twice in the seventh against Shoemaker. Brandon Barnes led off the inning with an opposite-field home run to right, his tenth of the year, making it a 4-1 game. Two batters later, Freddy Parejo reached on a throwing error by Quakes' third baseman Luis Jimenez. Federico Hernandez's two-out single scored Parejo to make it 4-2. Shoemaker gave up another hit, but stranded the tying runs on base.
Kevin Nabors pitched a scoreless eighth, while Eddie McKiernan fired a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save of the year.
With Lake Elsinore's loss on Friday night, the Quakes (31-24) are now five games back with 15 to go in the first half. On Saturday night, the Quakes will send Orangel Arenas (0-0) to the mound, as he makes his second start for the Quakes and his first at The Epicenter. Lancaster counters with Kyle Greenwalt, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
Saturday night is Studio Dental Fireworks Night at The Epicenter, as everyone will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Celebration thanks to Studio Dental and KOLA 99.9. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
