Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Three Quakes' pitchers combined to earn Rancho Cucamonga's league-leading fourth shutout with an 8-0 blanking of Lancaster on Thursday night.
Patrick Corbin, Christian Scholl and Steven Geltz scattered five hits and five walks, as the Quakes opened their four-game home stand at The Epicenter, with a victory over a JetHawks' club that's dropped 13 of their last 14 games.
Four Quakes had multi-hit games, while Jon Townsend's lone hit was a back-breaking three-run homer to put the game out of reach.
The Quakes wasted little time in getting to JetHawks' starter Brad Dydalewicz. Three batters into the game, Alexi Amarista ripped a line drive off the shin of Dydalewicz. The left-hander remained in the game for just three more hitters, as he surrendered consecutive RBI hits to Gabe Jacobo, Luis Jimenez and Adam Younger, as the Quakes took a 3-0 lead. Dydalewicz (1-6) was removed after facing just six batters, replaced by reliever Patrick Urckfitz.
Jacobo got to Urckfitz for a run in the fourth, as his RBI single plated Tyson Auer, making it a 4-0 advantage.
Townsend blasted a three-run shot to left field, as part of a four-run sixth inning, as the Quakes took a commanding 8-0 advantage.
That would be plenty for Quakes' starter Patrick Corbin (1-0), who allowed just two hits over six innings in his home debut, earning his first win in a Rancho Cucamonga uniform.
The Quakes (30-24) have now won six of their last eight games, but remain six games out of first place, behind the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Coming up on Friday night, the Quakes look to make it two in a row, sending Matt Shoemaker (3-3) to the hill against Lancaster left-hander Shane Wolf (3-3).
The first 1,500 fans through the gates on Friday night will receive a free set of 2010 Quakes' Baseball Cards, thanks to KFROG 95.1. Friday night is also a FRITOS Family Friday, where randomly selected fans will get the opportunity for some incredible behind-the-scenes experiences at The Epicenter. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm.
