Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock announced today that they have signed three new players to their inaugural squad: Charles Dutra, Christian Harmery and Brian Zbydnicwzki. The Shock's roster now stands at 21 players.
Dutra, 6'6 325, will line up on both sides of the ball as an OL/DL. Dutra, a veteran of the National Indoor Football League, attended Menlo College in Southern California. His senior season, Dutra helped the Oaks compile a 7 -3 record and anchored an offensive line that gained 1707 net yards including 22 rushing touchdowns. He also earned an honorable mention as an All-American for d3football.com while a senior at Menlo.
Menlo College Head Football Coach Fred Guidici stands behind his former player's achievements. "He is a solid player and he is gonna be a real asset to the Shock."
Dutra will be joined on the OL/DL by Harmery a former Minnesota State - Mankato standout. Harmeyer started in the last 33 consecutive games of his career both at left and right tackle. His senior season he earned several honors including All-North Central conference, All Region First Team and All-American Honorable mention. He was also a key component in the success of MSU rushing attack that averaged 173 yards per game.
"Christian will be a key component of our lineman group," Siegfried said. "His offensive lineman skills are a lock and his natural athleticism will allow for a smooth transition playing on both sides of the ball as a defensive lineman as well."
Harmeyer, Dutra and company will be protecting quarterback Zbydniewski, 6'1 195, who played for the Belhaven Blazers in college. As a Blazer, he passed for 2643 yards including 13 touchdowns and averaged just under 300 yards per game in his senior campaign. Zbydniewski also distributed the ball well with seven receivers catching 10 or more passes on the season.
In the 2005 season, he was a member of the South Georgia Wildcats where he played part of the season under current Shock Head Coach Chris Siegfried. That season, Zbydniewski compiled an impressive array of offensive stats that included 1789 yards with 28 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.
"Brian is a good quarterback with nice touch and excellent arm strength," Siegfried said. "He also has very good mobility with very quick feet that will allow him to scramble around in the pocket."
Zbydniewski will be one of thirty seven players who will be competing for 22 roster spots when training camp begins on March 13th. The season opener will be at the Spokane Arena when the Shock will host the Stockton Lightening on March 30th.
The Spokane Shock will be holding an open try-out on Monday January 30th at 8 AM at the Spokane Soccer Center E. 7320 Nora. Players of any experience level are invited to attend. The cost of the try-out will be $50 for those who pre-register or $60 at the door.
