Amarillo Venom News Release

The Amarillo Dusters today announced the assignment from the af2 league office of two former University of Toledo Rockets. WR/DB Michael Broussard and OL/DL Jerome Walker expect to make an immediate impact upon arriving at training camp in March.

"The sky is the limit for these two players," said Dusters General Manager Warren McCarty. "Michael Broussard was an unbelievable runningback in high school, and that is a trait that we love here in Amarillo. He is a great athlete. He has proven himself to be an outstanding defensive back with a nose for the ball, but he also has hands and speed. A lot remains to be seen about his ability to adjust to playing on both sides of the ball, but he's sharp and hungry. He has the potential to be one of the best two-way players in this league. Jerome Walker is very young and very raw. It's scary to think what he can accomplish if he can stay in the weight room and become a student of the game. He's got a sincere love for the game of football, and his heart won't let him fail. We don't even think he's finished growing yet, and he's 6'5. Potential is the magic word for Jerome."

Michael Broussard (5'10, 200) was a high-school All-American runningback at The Colony High School outside of Dallas. He rushed for over 3,000 yards and 34 touchdowns during his high school career. He made the transition to cornerback immediately after high school, and started as a true freshman in 2000 at Wisconsin. After starting the entire 2001 season as a sophomore for the Badgers, Broussard transferred to Toledo, leading the defensive secondary in 2003 and 2004. During his four-year collegiate career, Broussard compiled 209 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 7 interceptions, and 18 pass break-ups.

"Michael is another diamond that I discovered at the Dallas Desparados tryout camp," said Dusters Head Coach Steve Perdue. "He's so smooth in his back pedal and running routes. He's got break-away speed, and he's comfortable with the ball in his hands. He's blessed with great feet, and I anticipate him picking up on the nuances of the game very quickly."

Jerome Walker (6'5, 265) played rush end for the Rockets in 2003, and was credited with 7 tackles and 5 quarterback hurries. He starred at Avon High School in Avon, OH, earning All-State Honors as a senior.

"Jerome has some freaky athleticism, it's simply a matter of putting it all together on the field," said Perdue. "Things didn't work out exactly the way he had anticipated at Toledo, but the size, physical tools, and ability he possesses are unquestioned. I can really see him blossoming into a special player this year. It's on his shoulders to make it happen."
