
Firecats Sign Auburn WR Marcel Willis For 2006

Estero, FL- The Firecats announced the signing of WR Marcel Willis today. Willis brings not only his experience at a major college program to the Firecats but arena experience as well.
Marcel played with the AIFL's Richmond Bandits hauling in 48 passes while helping the team capture the leagues' inaugural Governors Cup championship. Willis was also named to the AIFL team while playing his first year of indoor football in 2005.
"He's a big physical guy who's played in the SEC which is big, plus he has arena experience," said Firecats coach Kevin Bouis "He ranks up there with Clifton Robinson and Ronney Daniels, both Auburn grads that played well in the AF2." Robinson is a former Firecat and Daniels is currently playing with the Tampa Bay Storm in the AFL. "Plus he's a Florida kid, I like those guys," Bouis went on to say.
The 6'2" 205lb Jacksonville, Florida native was a four year letterman starter at Auburn leading the Tigers in receiving both in 2002 and 2000. Earning playing time as a freshman he finished his college career ranked at Auburn's 13th all-time leader in receptions with 81.
The Firecats will hold their next open tryout on Saturday January 21st at Estero High School at Estero High School Field - 21900 River Ranch Rd, Estero, FL 33928 at 10:00 a.m. Registration begins at 10 AM and workouts start at 11 AM. A $75.00 (Cash only) registration fee is due the day of the tryout. The tryout is open for all positions and will be conducted outdoors on natural grass. Players will be required to perform in a Prostyle Combine workout. All participants are required to bring their own shoes (outdoor cleats preferably) and other proper athletic workout attire. At the Firecats 1st open tryout the team signed University of Florida Safety Zephrin Augustine and Florida Atlantic DB Derek Zak from among the 50 or so players who attended the event.
