Shocker Hall of Famer Being Honored this Friday

Wichita, KS (February 20th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, powered by Toyota, is excited to announce that Shocker Hall of Famer Jason Perez will be an Honorary Captain at Friday's game against the Allen Americans during Wichita State and Union Night. Perez was recently inducted into the 2014 Shocker Sports Hall of Fame back in January. The WSU men's basketball team is coming off an another win last night and improved to 28-0 on the season.

Perez became the 27th men's basketball player or coach to be inducted into the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame. He played at Wichita State from 1997-00, earning All-Valley selection three times and is the only four-time Wichita Eagle Most Valuable Award winner. Perez finished is career with 222 steals and 196 three-pointers, ranking him first all-time in Shocker men's basketball history in both categories. The San Antonio, Texas native graduated in 2000 and earned the #14 spot in the '50 Greatest Shocker Basketball Players.'

"Getting inducted into the Shocker Hall of Fame means to me that my teammates and coaches trusted me and believed in me," commented Perez. "The community of Wichita was great to my family and me especially during my playing career. Now the community has taken my business Next Level Hoops Academy and has embraced it and have supported it. It is a great honor that I will never forget. I am very excited to be coming out to the Thunder game and be a part of this experience."

Perez made a tremendous impact within the Hispanic community while playing for Wichita State. The University honored his accomplishments with the Jason Perez Athletic Endowed Scholarship, which was established in 2002. The purpose was to help a minority student athlete, preference to an Hispanic student as well as recognize Perez on and off the court. He remains involved in the community and helps young basketball players with their skills with his local business called Next Level Hoops Academy. Wichita returns home for a pair of game starting Friday, February 21st against the Allen Americans at 7:05 p.m.
