Shock Assigned Trio of Rookies to Begin Free Agency Period

SPOKANE, Wash. (September 29, 2014) - The Shock were assigned a trio of offensive lineman to begin the Free Agency period last Friday including two local products in former Eastern Washington Eagle Steven Forgette and Washington State Cougar Rico Forbes. Aleon Calhoun of Navarro College also joins the Shock for his rookie season in the Arena Football League.
Steven Forgette (6-4, 300, Eastern Washington) started in 31 games as an Eagle from 2010-2013 despite missing most of the 2011 season due to injury. After redshirting in 2009, Forgette would go on to start 14 of 15 games at left guard and earn Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors. The only game he didn't start in 2010 was against Idaho State in order to allow a teammate to start on Senior Day. Forgette would play in the first three games of 2011 before suffering a season ending injury, but in his return in 2012 he would start all 14 games and earn honorable mention All-America honors. During his senior season at EWU, Forgette received high praise from Coach Aaron Best for his ability to play at all five offensive line positions.
Rico Forbes (6-6, 315, Washington State) played his final collegiate season as a Cougar, appearing in 13 games and earning five starts during 2013. Forbes transferred to WSU in January of 2011, but would miss his redshirt junior season in 2012 due to a leg injury in fall camp. Prior to Washington State, Forbes played two seasons at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. As a sophomore he helped Navarro to an 11-1 record and the National Junior College Athletic Association championship.
Aleon Calhoun (6-7, 310, Navarro College) was the 17th ranked offensive tackle in the nation coming out of high school in Navasota, TX in 2010. After high school Calhoun would go on to play at Navarro College just after their 2010 NJCAA Championship win.
"We're excited to have these three join our team in preparation for the 2015 season and to come into Training Camp to compete," said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson. "Steven is a versatile, athletic offensive lineman while Rico and Aleon are both massive, long tackle types on the edge that are needed in the AFL to handle different types of pass rushers."
