Sheppard Leads the Way Offensively for Amerks

Rochester, NY Ð The Hamilton Bulldogs opened their 2004 preseason schedule by dropping a 5-0 decision to the Rochester Americans at the ESL Sports Center on Saturday. Goaltenders Ryan Miller and Chris Madden combined to make 18 saves to earn the shutout.

The Amerks opened the scoring at the 12:54 mark of the first period when rookie forward Scott Sheppard took a rebound off the end boards and jammed the puck in the short side of the Bulldogs net.

Rochester would take a 2-0 lead when Derek Roy scored his first goal of the preseason at 15:01 by converting a Jason Pominville pass and firing it into the Bulldogs goal.

The Bulldogs were out shot by a 12-2 margin in the first period.

The Amerks would continue their scoring ways into the second period as Sheppard notched his second goal of the game. SheppardÕs goal at 2:32 was unassisted.

Pominville and Chris Thornburn would score third period goals to seal the victory for Rochester.

Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis played all 60 minutes for the Bulldogs, and stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced on the night.

Ryan Miller and Chris Madden split the goaltending duties for the Amerks. Miller stopped each of the three shots he faced, before being replaced by Madden at the 9:24 mark of the second period.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Sunday, October 3rd, as the Bulldogs will host the St. JohnÕs Maple Leafs at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre in Caledonia, Ontario. SundayÕs game is completely sold out.
