LUBBOCK – Lubbock Cotton Kings Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kirk Tomlinson announced early this morning a trade between the Kings and the Indianapolis Ice.

The Kings will send forward Jim Shepherd to the Ice for American forward Russ Guzior and American defensemen Mike Ziebaq and Ontario native Steve Lecuyer.

"We needed this deal," said Tomlinson. "Shepherd has been good for us, but I couldn't pass up the players that were offered. We literally make our team deeper overnight – we are bigger, stronger and meaner."

Zeibaq is 6-1, 210-pounds and is a plus-4 in his 38 games played with the ice. Guzior, 5-10, 190-pounds, was a 1993 National Hockey League draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens – that was the last year they won the Stanley Cup.

Lecuyer 6-4, 225 will be a large addition to the team after playing with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Portage Terriers. In three seasons, he piled up 37 points (10-27=37) and 420 penalty minutes.

"We have struggled this year and I think that has been obvious," said Tomlinson. "We need some fresh faces from a team used to winning. We need that winning swagger and this is the first step to getting there."

The Ice are 22-15-1 with 45 points are currently tied with Oklahoma City in the Northern Conference for the last wild card playoff spot with three games in hand.

Tickets are limited but still available for the game January 24 against the New Mexico Scorpions. Tickets can be picked up at Select-a-Seat locations or by calling 806.747.PUCK (7825).

The Kings Mac-a-roni Fund will have an online pledge drive to help the fund. Fans will have two methods of donating on the web: 1)Pledge a dollar amount 2) Pledge an amount for every Cotton King shot during the game. All money raised will go to the fund.
