LUBBOCK – Lubbock Cotton Kings Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kirk Tomlinson announced a blockbuster trade between the Kings and the Wichita Thunder.

The Kings will send forward Joe Blaznek to the Thunder for forward Anders Strome and American defenseman Alex Todd.

Strome is the Central Hockey League's rookie scoring leader with 15 goals and 33 points in 40 games with the Thunder. Todd has 10 points and 103 penalty minutes in 39 games as a defenseman.

"We are building right now," said Tomlinson. "Both of these players are 6-3 and well over 200 pounds. I was really impressed with their talent when we saw them in Wichita and then at home this January. They are young and exciting players."

The Kings will face the Blaznek and the Thunder for the third and final time at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum Feb. 29.

Tomlinson will has more deals in the works and one that should be announced later today.

"We have struggled this year and I think that has been obvious," said Tomlinson. "We need some fresh faces from a team used to winning. We need that winning swagger and this is the first step to getting there."

Wichita is 19-17-4 and three points out of a playoff spot in the Northern Conference.

Blaznek will still represent the Lubbock Cotton Kings as their lone representative at the Dodge 2004 Central Hockey League All-Star game.

Tickets are limited but still available for the game January 24 against the New Mexico Scorpions. Tickets can be picked up at Select-a-Seat locations or by calling 806.747.PUCK (7825).

The Kings Mac-a-roni Fund will have an online pledge drive to help the fund. Fans will have two methods of donating on the web: 1)Pledge a dollar amount 2) Pledge an amount for every Cotton King shot during the game. All money raised will go to the fund.
