DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Shawn O'Donnell has committed to play his collegiate hockey at UMass Lowell. O'Donnell, 18, is in the midst of his first full season at the USHL level. He is set to eventually join a River Hawks program that is ranked 15th in the nation as of Week 10 of the 2021-22 USA Hockey Magazine college hockey poll.

O'Donnell has thrived in the month of November, with a goal and three assists in his last five games. Across time with the Madison Capitols, the Minnesota Wilderness and the Fighting Saints, he has posted 3 goals and 5 assists in 28 games at the junior hockey level. O'Donnell on committing to UMass Lowell: I fell in love with the facility. It's a beautiful campus. They play a style I can see myself thriving in. They play a hard, skilled, straight-lined game, and that's the style of hockey that I play.

GM Kalle Larsson: Shawn is a fierce competitor who has added tremendous energy to our team. We are excited that he has committed to UMass Lowell.

Head coach Greg Brown: We're very happy for Shawn that he has accepted his offer from UMass Lowell. Shawn brings outstanding work ethic and competitiveness to the rink every single day. He will one day be a valued member of Coach Bazin's team, just as he is here on the Fighting Saints.

UMass Lowell is led by Norm Bazin, who is in his 11th season as bench boss of the River Hawks. As a Division I program, the River Hawks have made it to the NCAA Tournament five times (2012-17), and to the Frozen Four once (2013). As of the writing of this release, UMass Lowell owns an 8-2-2 record, which includes a 6-1-0 mark in Hockey East Play.
