Military Appreciation Weekend Friday & Saturday

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Free Waterloo Black Hawks hockey tickets are available to all active military personnel and veterans this Friday and Saturday, as the organization's annual military appreciation weekend honors service to our country.

The Black Hawks will host the Sioux Falls Stampede for both games. Friday's first faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and the puck drops at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. Throughout the weekend, Waterloo players will wear a military-themed jersey, presented by American Pattern & CNC Works. Following Saturday's game, the unique sweaters will be auctioned to benefit Americans for Independent Living, a Cedar Valley-based organization which provides transitional assistance to veterans.

"Last season, the team's Military Appreciation jerseys were tremendously popular with fans, and the auction was a gratifying success at a time when COVID capacity limits were loosening. We are glad to be able to host this year's jersey auction in December - where is has been in several previous years - and hope fans in the holiday spirit will bid generously," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene. "American Pattern has been a great supporter of veterans and a great partner with us to make this an annual tradition."

American Pattern & CNC Works provided key support to establish the Miehe Veterans Transitional Home on East 9th Street in Waterloo. The facility is administered by Americans for Independent Living and offers accommodations for servicemen in need, as identified by the Veterans Affairs Commission of Black Hawk County and the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program. The Miehe Veterans Transitional Home opened in 2017 with a goal of reducing veteran homelessness in Black Hawk County.

The Hawks' 2021 military jerseys are primarily red. The team logo on the chest has been altered to use royal blue in place of black. A matching strip of royal blue across the waist features an alternating pattern of stars and Hawk silhouettes. From the top of the shoulders down the sleeves, a desert camouflage design appears, broken at both sides of the collar by an American flag. Names and numbers on the back of each jersey appear in white, outlined in blue.

For tickets to either game during military appreciation weekend, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
