Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Eagles forward Brady Shaw scored a pair of goals, while nine Colorado skaters made their way onto the scoresheet in a 6-3 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Friday. Sam Brittain earned the win in net, making 34 saves on the 37 shots he faced in the contest. The victory now gives the Eagles a perfect 3-0 record to start the 2017-18 season.

Rookie defenseman Gage Ausmus started the scoring just 3:04 into the contest when he took a feed in the high slot and wired a shot past Admirals goalie Jamie Murray for his first professional goal and a 1-0 Colorado advantage.

The Eagles would extend their lead early in the second period when Shaw snagged an outlet pass and buried a wrister from the left circle to put Colorado on top 2-0 with only 2:17 gone in the middle frame. Just 32 seconds later, forward Michael Joly forced a turnover deep in the Norfolk zone, dragged the puck to the low slot and lit the lamp to grow the Eagles advantage to 3-0.

Norfolk would finally create a goal of its own less than a minute later when defenseman Tim Daly collected a rebound on top of the crease and lifted it past Brittain to slice the Eagles lead to 3-1.

The swing in momentum would be short-lived, as Colorado would find itself on a power play midway through the second period and defenseman Collin Bowman would capitalize with a slapshot from the circle to put the Eagles on top 4-1 with 11:18 still to play in the second.

Only two minutes later, the advantage would stretch to 5-1, as defenseman Matt Register powered a shot from the top of the left circle past Murray at the 11:10 mark of the middle stanza.

Trailing 5-1 after 40 minutes of play, Norfolk would take advantage of an Eagles turnover early in the third period, creating a 2-on-1 rush that forward Trevor Mingoia would finish to cut the Colorado lead to 5-2 with only 37 seconds elapsed in the final frame.

Six minutes later, the Eagles would again light the lamp when Shaw controlled the puck at the top of the circle off a face off and blistered a shot into the back of the net to put Colorado up 6-2 with 13:24 to play in regulation.

The Admirals would earn themselves a power play late in the third period and defenseman Joonas Lyytinen would take advantage with a slap shot from the point that would trim the Eagles lead to 6-3 with 1:31 left in the final frame.

Both teams finished the evening going 1-for-4 on the power play, while Norfolk ended the contest with a shots-on-goal advantage of 37-35. Shaw would join forwards Drayson Bowman, Jake Marchment and defenseman Jake Marto by each registering a pair of points in the winning effort.

Colorado and Norfolk will face each other one last time on Saturday, October 21st at the Budweiser Events Center. The puck drops at 7:15pm at the Budweiser Events Center, as the Eagles team and staff will be presented with their 2017 Kelly Cup Championship rings during a pregame ceremony on the ice.
