Worcester Bravehearts News Release
The Worcester Bravehearts came into their game with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks riding back-to-back wins, just like last season, to start the summer. The Sharks came into town, just like last season, and spoied the fun once again, beating the Bravehearts by a score of 5-2 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA.
Bravehearts starting pitcher Mike Bruemmel (Wheaton/Bridgewater, MA) got roughed up in the 3rd inning by the Sharks. After giving up two walks and a single, Sharks catcher Gage Lanning (Herkimer College/Central Square, N.Y.) roped a double down the left field line off of Bruemmel (0-1) that cleared the bases, giving Martha's Vineyard a 3-0. Lanning had three hits in four at-bats in the game.
On the bump for the Sharks, pitcher Steven Colella (UMass-Dartmouth/Leominster, MA) was nearly flawless overall in his 5.1 innings of work. Colella (1-0) only allowed one run on four hits to Bravehearts' batters, giving the visitors the edge on the road. He picked up his first win of the summer. Pitcher Matt Cronin (UMass-Dartmouth/Framingham, MA) notched the save for the Sharks.
The Bravehearts scored both of their two runs in the 6th inning on wild pitches. Outfielder Matt Diesel (Felecian/Massapequa Park, N.Y.) went 2-3 with a run scored, while shortstop Tom Walraven (New Haven/Thompson Ridge, N.Y.) went 2-2 with two walks and arun scored.
Tonight's attendance at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field was 2,780.
