Sharks Veteran Defensive Lineman Damien Jacobs Re-Signs
JACKSONVILLE - The 2019 National Arena League Champion Jacksonville Sharks have announced today the re-signing of Defensive Lineman Damien Jacobs for his fourth year in arena football.
Jacobs (6'3, 300) returns to Jacksonville after helping the Sharks to a championship season in 2019. During the 2019 season, Jacobs assisted in four tackles and one sack. In 2018, Jacobs had his best season in arena football recording 15.5 tackles, five sacks, four recovered fumbles, two interceptions, and added a pass breakup, forced fumble, blocked kick, and a safety to his season total. Jacobs earned the Second Team All-NAL honors and the NAL Award for Most Improved Player. Jacobs began his career in 2017, where he joined the Sharks for training camp, but was released and picked up by the Georgia Firebirds of the NAL before returning to the Sharks for the remainder of the season. During rookie season he totaled 14 tackles, four sacks, two safeties, two fumbles recovered, and one interception.
Jacobs finished his college career at the University of Florida where he had 34 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one interception as a Gator. Prior to UF, Jacobs played at the JUCO level with East Mississippi Community College, more famously known as "Last Chance U" coined by its Netflix series. During his time at EMCC Jacobs recorded 47 tackles, two sacks, and two recovered fumbles and won two national championship titles with the Lions..
Jacobs is a native of Gibson, LA and attended highschool at H.L. Bourgeois High School during which time he was ranked 75th overall in the nation for defensive lineman and third in the state of Louisiana.
