April 8, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that the team has completed a trade with the Los Angeles KISS. In the deal, Jacksonville receives defensive lineman Scooter Berry in exchange for defensive lineman James McClinton.
The 28-year-old Berry (6'2", 275) is in his second season in the Arena Football League. He competed in training camp with the Orlando Predators this year, and was later traded to Los Angeles prior to the start of the regular season. Berry appeared in one game with the KISS, recording a solo tackle.
Berry originally began his AFL career with the Sharks in 2012, a season in which he earned Second Team All-Arena honors after setting a Jacksonville franchise record and tying an AFL rookie record with 13.0 sacks. That season, Berry appeared in all 18 games, totaling 30 tackles (25 solo), leading the team with five forced fumbles and adding three fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks and a pass breakup. In an early-season matchup with the New Orleans VooDoo, Berry recorded a strip-sack, recovering the ensuing fumble in the end zone. His defensive touchdown keyed a Jacksonville comeback that saw the Sharks erase a 23-point deficit en route to victory.
After completing his rookie season in Jacksonville, Berry signed with the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes. Seeing action with Montreal in both 2012 and 2013, Berry totaled 13 tackles, one sack, one interception and one fumble recovery during his time in the CFL.
Prior to the start of his professional career, Berry was a fixture along the defensive line at West Virginia University, playing with the Mountaineers from 2006-10. Berry is a native of North Babylon, New York.
McClinton originally joined the Sharks midway through the 2014 season following a trade with the Iowa Barnstormers. Manning the nose guard spot, McClinton recorded a team-high total of nine sacks last season, and notched a sack in each of the Sharks' first two games of 2015.
