Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that the team has completed a trade with the Arizona Rattlers. In the deal, Jacksonville has received defensive lineman Nicolas Jean-Baptiste in exchange for wide receiver Chase Deadder.

The 26-year-old Jean-Baptiste (6'2", 330) enters his second season in the Arena Football League after making his AFL debut with the Rattlers in 2014. Last season, Jean-Baptiste appeared in three regular-season games (two starts), registering four total tackles, one sack and a pass breakup. After making his AFL debut against the Sharks in Week 4, Jean-Baptiste registered his first career sack in a Week 6 matchup with the Pittsburgh Power.

Before heading to the AFL, Jean-Baptiste enjoyed stints with several National Football League franchises, first signing with the Baltimore Raves as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft. He then spent time with the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad later in the 2012 season, and competed in training camp with the Cleveland Browns in 2013.

Jean-Baptiste spent his collegiate career at Baylor University, where he began his career as a walk-on and went on to make 21 starts in 49 games played along the defensive line. As a senior in 2011, Jean-Baptiste recorded personal best totals of 36 tackles and four sacks. Over the course of his time with the Bears, Jean-Baptiste notched a total of 94 tackles, five sacks and a forced fumble. A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Jean-Baptiste attended Strake Jesuit College Prep.

In other Thursday transactions, the Sharks announced that defensive back Micheaux Robinson has been activated from Physically Unable to Perform, while defensive lineman Caesar Rayford has been placed on League Suspension.
