Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Arena Football League and the 2012 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that the Sharks have claimed the top spot in the initial AFLFieldPass.com vPower Rankings of the 2013 season. The only undefeated team in the League, the Sharks hold a slight edge over the second-ranked Arizona Rattlers.
The Sharks have begun the 2013 season by winning the team's first six games, the best start in franchise history. Jacksonville had never won each of its first two games in any season prior to this year. The Sharks opened the season with a divisional road win over the Tampa Bay Storm, which check in at No. 4 in the initial rankings. The Sharks have already won four road games in 2013, matching the Spokane Shock with a league-best 4-0 record away from home. The team boasts the league's best scoring defense (42.7 points allowed per game), while the Shark offense ranks third with an average of 60.3 points per contest.
The AFL vPower Rankings are calculated on AFLFieldPass.com using vPowerTM, a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. The scale is normalized from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest). For a full rundown of where each team stands in the initial vPower rankings, please click here .
Jacksonville looks to solidify its top spot this weekend, as the team hosts the Arizona Rattlers on Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday, May 4. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
