Sharks Nab Top Spot in First Power Rankings of 2013
April 29, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
CHICAGO - The NET10 Wireless Arena Football League has released its vPower rankings, as tabulated on AFLFieldPass.com, for the first time during the 2013 season. The Jacksonville Sharks (6-0) have nabbed the top spot after a 55-53 victory over the Philadelphia Soul (2-3) in Week 6.
The League's only remaining undefeated team has outscored its opponents by more than 100 points this season, a statistic outmatched only by the No. 2-ranked Arizona Rattlers (5-1), who have tallied 134 more points than opponents this season. The two squads square off in Jacksonville this Saturday, May 4.
The Rattlers have bounced back from a Week 4 loss to the Spokane Shock (5-1) to win their last two games by 40 points apiece. That point differential, compounded with a two-game winning streak and the team's overall strength of schedule has enabled the Rattlers to leapfrog Spokane in the vPower rankings, who come in at No. 3 this week, following a 70-62 loss to the Tampa Bay Storm (4-2) in Week 6.
After starting the season 0-2, the Chicago Rush (4-2) have gotten back on track, rolling off four straight wins to land the No. 4 spot in the vPower rankings. Despite averaging just one more point than opponents this season, the blue-collar Rush have proven the team needs little more than that to be successful.
A signature win in "Deaf Valley" enabled the Tampa Bay Storm to claim the No. 5 position in the vPower Rankings. Following an uncharacteristically low-scoring loss at home to the San Antonio Talons (2-4) three weeks ago, the Storm have come alive again with two straight wins. The team will look for three straight this week in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" on CBS Sports Network, when the New Orleans VooDoo (1-4) visit for a divisional matchup on national television.
