Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Sunday that the team will begin its 2012 postseason run by hosting the division rival Georgia Force on Saturday, July 28. The game will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Sharks entered Saturday's AFL action having already clinched the No. 2 seed in the American Conference. Georgia needed to win its Saturday game against the New Orleans VooDoo in order to secure a playoff spot amd the No. 3 seed. By defeating the VooDoo by a 55-48 count, Georgia finished the regular season with a 9-9 overall record and punched its ticket to Jacksonville.
Saturday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting - and second postseason contest - between the Sharks and Force. Jacksonville swept three matchups against the Force in 2011, including a 64-55 victory in the 2011 American Conference Championship game on Sea Best Field.
The Sharks will look to prevent the reverse from happening this season, as Georgia won both regular-season meetings between the two clubs. The Force defeated the Sharks 69-41 in Jacksonville's home opener, then won 56-39 in Week 14.
Elsewhere in the American Conference, the New Orleans VooDoo clinched the No. 4 seed after the Tampa Bay Storm lost to the Spokane Shock on Saturday night. The VooDoo will travel north to meet the No. 1 seed Philadelphia Soul this weekend. The winner of that game will face either Jacksonville or Georgia for the right to represent the conference in AVITAE ArenaBowl XXV in New Orleans on Friday, August 10.
Tickets for Saturday's game are currently on sale and may be purchased by calling the Sharks Ticket Office at (904) 621-0700 during normal business hours.
