Sharks to Host 2023 NAL Championship Game
August 7, 2023 - National Arena League (NAL)
Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - On Saturday, August 12th, the first seed Jacksonville Sharks will host the Carolina Cobras in the National Arena League (NAL) Championship at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena.
This will be the season's third game between the two sides; the season series is split 1-1, with both teams winning on their home field.
The first round of playoffs was last week, with the two teams taking down their opponent in impressive fashion.
The Sharks beat their in-state rival, fourth seed, Orlando Predators, 62-18 on home turf. The defense commanded the game, allowing just two Orlando touchdowns in 60 minutes. Quarterback Sam Castronova threw two touchdowns and rushed for two by himself. Kamrin Solomon and Darien Townsend also had running scores. The defense did all other scoring, including a pick-six by Devin Wilson.
The second-seeded Carolina Cobras took out the third-seed San Antonio Gunslingers in Greensboro, 52-36. Quarterback Malik Henry threw five touchdowns and 127 yards in the win. Kicker TC Stevens went six for six in extra-point attempts and hit two deuces for the Cobras.
The two last met in the championship game in 2019 when the Sharks took down the Cobras 52-48 at the Tank. This will be the first time since that match-up that the Sharks will fight for a title, and they are seeking their third win since joining the NAL in 2011.
Game time is 7 p.m. at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville. Come out and support your Sharks as they look to add a championship to their already record-breaking season.
"We're so excited to host the championship in Jacksonville in front of the country's best fans", Coach Gibson said. "We look forward to continuing the Sharks winning tradition and bringing a third Championship Title to Jacksonville"
