Sharks Steal An Ugly Win at Fuessenich

Torrington Titans News Release

The Marthas Vineyard Sharks (5-1) and the Torrington Titans (2-3) both threatened with rallies, but it was the Marthas Vineyard Sharks that eventually took advantage of them in a 4-3 win at Fuessenich Park.

Cody Doyle (Sacred Heart) was hot from the plate for the Torrington Titans in his first start of the season. Doyle went 3-4 and scored one run. He singled in the third, fifth, and seventh innings.

Dylan Dennis (Franklin Pierce) improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Sharks. He allowed two runs over five innings. Dennis struck out five, walked one and gave up four hits. Strong outings from Trevor Holmes (UConn) and Mike Parmemtier (Norfolk State) helped solidify the victory on Wednesday night.

Frank Valentino (Suffolk County CC) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted six innings, walked four, struck out seven, and allowed four runs, with three of those being earned runs.

The story of the game would be Martha's Vineyard creating opportunities by having the first runner of the inning reach base. Sharks players were 3-for-6 with two walks and an error when leading off innings.

Marthas Vineyard struck with one run in the first when Ryan Kelly scored from third when Zach Wood dropped what would have been the third out at first base. The Titans would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, however, as Doyle scored on a Joe Paparelli ground out and Nick Garland knocked in Nick Lamberti with a single.

The game would stay that way until the sixth, when Martha's Vineyard reclaimed the lead with three runs. Brian Campbell and Donovan Casey scored on a Bobby San Martin double. San Martin would come around to score on a wild pitch by Frank Valentino.

The Titans play Thursday night at Wachusett and return home on Friday against the Worcester Bravehearts at Fuessenich Park, 7:00 PM first pitch.
