Bravehearts fall to the Suns
June 11, 2015 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release
The Worcester Bravehearts couldn't seem to figure out Pittsfield Suns pitcher Andrew Erkis (Vassar College / Villanova, Pennsylvania), as the starter went 6.1 innings, gave up only two hits, one walk, and only one unearned crossed the plate in his outing.
With this effort the Suns handed the Bravehearts their fourth straight defeat, this time by a score of 4-2 Wednesday night, June 10 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield.
Suns center fielder Ryan Olmo (URI / Attleboro) knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the third inning. Olmo finished 3-3 with a walk and a run scored. Worcester evened it up in the fifth when left fielder Logan Brown (Slippery Rock/Leechburg, Pennsylvania) hit an RBI single with the bases loaded.
Pittsfield pulled away in the sixth inning when Bravehearts reliever Gus Culpo (Pittsburg / Providence, Rhode Island) threw a wild pitch to score Olmo, and first baseman Brendan Geary (Maine / South Hadley) followed up with an RBI single. Culpo was charged with both runs and took the loss in his first appearance.
In the ninth inning, Suns pitcher Dom Grillo (URI / North Kingstown, Rhode Island) gave up a double to Bravehearts outfielder Bobby Indeglia (Holy Cross / North Kingstown, Rhode Island) but did not allow any runs to score, as the lefty picked up his second save of the season.
The 2-4 Bravehearts return home Thursday night, June 11 to face the Bristol Blue, the FCBL's newest team in the league. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Tickets to all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com or by calling 508-438-3773.
