Sharks Split with Salamanders

With two wins tonight, the Sharks could have pulled within one game of the East Division lead in the second half. However, Wilmington (15-30, 8-12) only managed to split the doubleheader at home with Holly Springs (19-28, 11-10).
The evening was dominated by the pitching staff on both sides and was the deciding factor in both contests.
In game one, Christian Scafidi (5-0) was lights out against the Sharks. The sophomore from the University of Pennsylvania struck out 12, while only allowing two hits in six scoreless innings. Coleman Williams (1) came in to pick up his first save to beat the Sharks 3-0.
The Salamanders scored in the first two innings against Sharks starter Blake Hamilton (0-1). Holly Springs scored on a Peyton Isaacson single in the first. The visitors then added two more with help from two Sharks' errors in the second.
Game two it was the Sharks turn to dominate on the hill. Caleb Bishop (2-4) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings only allowing two hits before the rain came in the sixth. Wilmington was the beneficiary of the rain-shortened affair.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Sharks loaded the bases with the two outs with the nine-hole hitter, Trent Alley coming to the plate. Alley stepped up and sent a rocket over the left field wall for his first homer and grand slam as a Shark.
Cam Colmore (2-1) was the losing pitcher as he loaded the bases before being replaced Christian Bourne. Out of the bullpen, Bourne surrendered the grand slam to Alley.
The Sharks are now three games behind Morehead City in the second half in the East, while the Salamanders are a half game behind the Marlins.
Wilmington and Holly Springs are both off tomorrow and will meet again at the Shark Tank on Monday. First pitch from Buck Hardee Field is scheduled for 7:05 Monday night. Monday's game can be streamed here: portal.stretchinternet.com/cplsharks/
