SwampDogs Roll over RedWolves

July 28, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The race for the Petitt Cup playoffs gets hotter by the day, and the SwampDogs seem to be loving the heat.

Entering Friday's play just a game and a half out of first place in the East Division, Fayetteville could move within a half game of the division's top spot with a win and some help. The SwampDogs delivered in a big way, pairing great pitching with two big innings at the plate to claim an 8-2 victory over the Florence RedWolves.

DJ Moore (Huntington) drew the start and looked sharp over six innings of work. The righty, making his fourth start for the SwampDogs, allowed just one run while striking out three to earn his second win this summer.

While Moore worked his way through the RedWolves' lineup, his teammates put together two big rallies to put the eight up on the scoreboard. Fayetteville scored three in the fourth, as AJ Hrica (Campbell) recorded an RBI single and Tanner Piechnick (Ohio) put a line drive over the left-field wall for a two-run home run. The SwampDogs added five more in the eighth to pull away from Florence and improve to 4-1 this week. After the SwampDogs' victory and a Holly Springs loss, the divisional standings feature three teams separated by just a half game. Fayetteville takes on the first-place Morehead City Marlins both Saturday and Sunday, with the first of those matchups coming at The Swamp.
