Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced today the signing of defensive lineman Chei Hill who enters his first season of arena football with the Jacksonville Sharks.
Hill (6'4, 265) spent the 2021 season with the CFL's Edmonton Elks where he was a defensive lineman during his rookie year in the Canadian Football League. Hill had a unique college path; he joined his father during his freshman year who was the head coach at East Tennessee State in 2017, a Division I (FCS) in Johnson City, TN. Hill's career at ETSU was short as he transferred to Jones College, a powerhouse football school at the JUCO level where he spent the 2018-2019 seasons there in Ellisville Mississippi.
Hill quickly rose as a JUCO star during his first season with the team leading the nation in tackles for a loss with 39 total, ranking 4th in the nation with 15 sacks and recorded 64 tackles. During his redshirt sophomore season at Jones he landed 50 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, nine QB hurries, and blocked three kicks including one that he caught for a 55-yard touchdown return. Hill's phenomenal career at Jones College landed him two-time NJCAA All-Region 23 honors, two-time All-MACJC performer, MACJC Defensive lineman of the year, and MACJC Most Valuable Player. Finishing his sophomore season he received a scholarship to play for the University of Central Oklahoma in 2020 but due to the pandemic the season was cancelled. Hill opted out of the 2021 season and signed with the Canadian Football League.
Hill's hometown is Homestead, FL but he resides in Florida City, FL. He attended South Dade High School where he played linebacker and defensive lineman. Hill dominated two sports at South Dade; he was a 3x State Champion wrestler with a 39-0 undefeated record. On the football field he recorded 16 sacks in four games his senior year and was awarded Third Team All-State honors.
