
Sharks Sign AAL All-Star Linebacker Fred Williams

JACKSONVILLE - The 2019 NAL Champion Jacksonville Sharks, have signed linebacker Fred Williams. Williams is the first new signee under Head Coach James Fuller for next season. Earlier today, All-NAL offensive linemen Derrick Zeigler also signed with Jacksonville for the 2020 National Arena League season.
Linebacker Fred Williams (6'2,235) signs with the Sharks for his third season of arena football. Williams played for the Carolina Energy of the American Arena League (AAL) from 2018-2019. Last year he helped Carolina to a perfect 6-0 regular season record, an AAL Championship appearance, and was named the 2019 AAL Defensive Player of the Year as well as a 2019 AAL All-Star. During the 2018 season he helped the team to an AAL playoff appearance.
Williams spent his college career with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he totaled 175 tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. During his last year with UNC Pembroke he was named Defensive MVP and led the team with a single season school record of 113 tackles (60 solo).
Williams is from Fayetteville, North Carolina and attended Terry Sandford High school. During his career at Terry Sandford he was a two-time All-Conference Linebacker, All-Region Linebacker, a team Defensive Player of the Year, and was voted into the Terry Sanford's Athletics Victor Club. During his Junior year he totaled 86 tackles and one interception helping the team to a state playoff appearance. Williams also competed in track & field before graduating.
