SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed Group II restricted free agent defenseman Jesse Fibiger. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last season, Fibiger, 25, posted 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) in 59 games with the Cleveland Barons, the Sharks top development affiliate of the American Hockey League, before being recalled to San Jose on March 5. He appeared in his first career NHL game on March 6 vs. Montreal and played in a total of 16 games for the Sharks. Fibiger also appeared in four games representing Team Canada at the 2003 Sweden games.

In 2001-02, Fibiger played in his first professional season, leading all Cleveland defensemen and finishing second on team in games played (79). He placed third among team defensemen in scoring with 18 total points (6 goals, 12 assists). He tied for first among team defensemen in power play goals (4).

The six-foot-three, 220-pound Fibiger played for the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 1997-01, posting eight assists and 56 penalty minutes his senior season. Fibiger played for Victoria of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League in 1996-97, and was named Victoria's top defenseman.

The native of Victoria, British Columbia was signed by San Jose as a free agent on Aug. 15, 2001.
