Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Corpus Christi Sharks Vice President & General Manager, Larry Linde, announced today that the Arena Football League team has reached agreement on a multi-year deal that will make CITGO the Presenting Sponsor of Sharks Football.
The deal, which was announced at a press conference held at Katz 21, solidifies the team's status in the community and brings enhanced credibility to the young franchise, which is in its second season in the af2."This is a significant day in the very short history of Sharks football," said Linde. He added, "CITGO recognizes that as a professional sports franchise we have a unique ability to influence our youth and unify a community. We share a common vision for the Coastal Bend". After getting off to a slow start in 2007, the team's inaugural season, the Sharks won five of their last six games and narrowly missed a playoff berth. The momentum the organization built in the second half of the year carried over into the off-season, both on and off the field. The Sharks are off to a 2-2 start and currently sit in second place of the Southwest Division of the National Conference, behind the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings. The Sharks opened the season on the road with a convincing win over the Austin Wranglers. Then, in their home opener, they earned their first victory ever over division rival Rio Grande Valley Dorados - a team who finished the 2007 regular season with a 15-1 record.
"I was at the game a couple weeks ago, and to see the crowd and the excitement in the building, it was something special and something we wanted to be a part of," CITGO Spokesperson Jesse Garcia said. While terms of the agreement were not released it was noted that the agreement is a multi year deal that includes such elements as arena signage, community ticket blocks, jersey logos, as well as a series of special events within the community involving Sharks players, coaches, dance team members, staff and ownership.
The Sharks will travel to Rio Grande Valley to take on the Dorados on May 3 before returning home to face the Texas Copperheads on Radiology Associates Field inside the American Bank Center on May 10.
