Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that the team has exercised one-year rookie options for defensive back Greg Reid, Mac linebacker Jimmy Gordon and wide receiver Johnathan Haggerty, each of whom ended the 2015 season on the Jacksonville roster.

The 25-year-old Reid (5'9", 185) earned AFL Rookie of the Year honors after putting together a spectacular first season in the League. Starting each of the Sharks' final 12 regular-season games, Reid led the team with nine interceptions and 21 pass breakups. He also totaled 70.5 tackles (56 solo), forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles. Reid led all AFL players with 150 interception return yards, and finished third in the League with an average of 2.5 passes defended per game.

Reid made his presence felt immediately after entering the lineup, as he intercepted a pass on the third defensive snap of his Week 7 debut against the Cleveland Gladiators. Three weeks later, Reid sealed the Sharks' Week 10 victory over the Los Angeles KISS with an interception on the final play of the game. Against the Philadelphia Soul in Week 17, Reid intercepted consecutive passes to key Jacksonville's come-from-behind victory. Reid also recorded two interceptions during the 2015 postseason.

The 24-year-old Gordon (6'4", 275) joined the Sharks partway through the 2015 season, starting at Mac linebacker in all five games in which he played. Gordon recorded a total of 6.5 tackles and recovered two fumbles. Gordon ended the 2015 season on Injured Reserve.

Another midseason addition, the 27-year-old Haggerty (6'1", 185) saw action in four games during his first season in the AFL. Haggerty totaled two receptions for 43 yards, and caught his first career touchdown pass in the Sharks' Week 18 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm. Haggerty also contributed on special teams, returning six kickoffs for a total of 94 yards and recording 4.5 total tackles.
