Wilmington Sharks News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks (17-10, 31-23) ended the 2013 CPL regular season on a strong note as they picked up a 3-1 win on the road over the Morehead City Marlins (12-16, 24-32).
The Sharks kept their hot hitting going in the top of the first inning as Andrew Amaro reached second on an error to lead off the game then stole third to get into scoring position. Alex Freedman picked up a single to drive in Amaro to give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead. Zach MacAneney picked up an RBI single with two outs in the same inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Sharks extended their 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning as Andrew Amaro doubled to deep left center field to score Losby and make it 3-0. Ryan Cranmer picked up the loan Marlins run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo blast over the left field fence his 12th home run of the year to make it 3-1.
The Sharks pitching staff did a great job as they have done all year. Derek Justice was the winning pitcher only giving up one run on four hits and striking out six. Hunter Smith picked up his second save of the year.
Andrew Amaro blistered the ball in the game as he went 4-5 with an RBI double and three stolen bases. Zach MacAneney went 2-4 for the Sharks with a RBI. The Wilmington Sharks will start postseason play on Wednesday night at home against either the Edenton Steamers or the Peninsula Pilots in the first round of the Petitt Cup Playoffs with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
