
Sharks Come up Short in Morehead City

After back to back walk-off wins, the Wilmington Sharks (16-11) couldn't pull off the comeback for the third time as the Morehead City Marlins (14-13) held on to win 10-9.
The Sharks took an early 4-0 lead in the third inning. Mark Donadio (Fordham) lead off the inning with a walk, and was brought home on a base hit from Cletis Avery (Presbyterian). Avery was brought home on Alec Bohm's (Wichita State) single, and Madison Stokes (South Carolina) pushed across two more. A solo home run from Morehead's Brandon Shaffer (Indiana Wesleyan) got the Marlins on the board in the bottom of the inning. Wilmington responded when Chris Graham (UNC Greensboro) scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
It was the Marlins turn for a big inning in the fifth, as they plated five runs on four hits, two dropped fly balls and took a 6-5 lead. Avery hit another RBI single in the sixth to tie the game once again, but a the Marlins retook the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two run home run. Grant Koch (Arkansas) did the same in the seventh, to tie the game at eight. A walk and two errors helped the Marlins take the lead again in the bottom of the eighth.
In the ninth, the Sharks got a run back on a solo home run from Bohm. But they needed one more, and couldn't bring across tying run in the ninth.
The win went to Kyle Ramsey (1-0). He threw one inning, with no hits, no runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Steven Powels (0-2) took the loss, pitching three innings, allowing four runs, on two hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Jared Datoc (3) picked up the save with one inning, one run on one hit.
The Sharks continue their road trip for the holiday weekend, with a trip to Lexington County.
