Wilmington Sharks News Release

Edenton, NC - The Wilmington Sharks (9-6) took full advantage of the short fence at the Edenton Steamers' (7-9) ballpark, as they launched four home runs on Friday night in their 11-4 win.

There were plenty of home runs to go around as a total of seven balls left the yard between the two teams. Brett Smith (Bucknell) lead off the game with a home run, and Michael Hungate (Oral Roberts) hit a homer of his own in the second. Edenton later tied the game at two with a home run in the third and fourth innings.

Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) homered in the sixth inning to give the Sharks a lead they wouldn't give up. Wilmington added two more on a fielder's choice in the seventh. Trailing 5-2, Edenton got one back on an RBI double.

Alec Bohm stepped in with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, and hit a grand slam to give the Sharks some insurance. A solo home run for Edenton made it 11-4, but they couldn't mount a comeback as Kyler Stout shut the door.

The win went to Cody Tyler (1-0). He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks, and struck out six. Jesse Stinnett (0-2) took the loss, pitching five and two thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out five. Kyler Stout (1) notched his first save of the year with three innings, four hits, two runs, one walk, and four strikeouts.

The Sharks will be back home on Saturday to host the Holly Springs Salamanders. The game will start at 7:05pm.
