Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Despite scoring first on the road and solid pitching, the SwampDogs could not stop timely Tobs hitting, falling in Wilson 3-2 on Friday.
The SwampDogs struck first in the fourth inning after Pat Donnelly (Lehigh) led the inning off with a single. Tyler Tharp (VMI) delivered a two out single to take the lead.
Wilson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. That allowed Tobs' starter Evan Nations to settle down and complete six innings of work.
The SwampDogs tied the game against reliever Brandon Elmy in the seventh when AJ Gallo (Towson) drove in Nick Maton (Eastern Illinois). But Wilson answered again in the bottom of the seventh with a run to take the 3-2 lead.
Elmy pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to earn the win and improve to 1-0. SwampDogs starter Cody Smith (Chowan) pitched well in sixth and a third innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight, but was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-2.
The SwampDogs return home for All About Buds Presented by RA Jeffreys and Dog Day at the Park at 7:05pm.
