Edenton Steamers News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Edenton Steamers fell, 5-4, in extra innings to the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Thursday night. Edenton (7-8) lost in walkoff fashion for the second time in as many road games, and Fayetteville (4-9) snapped a two-game losing skid.

Starter Teddy Christie had an excellent outing, shutting out the SwampDogs on one hit with six strikeouts in five innings, but he was forced into a no decision. Sam Beattie took the loss for Edenton. Beattie (0-1) surrendered the game-winning run on two hits in the tenth while walking two and striking out two in 1.2 innings.

David Mariggi grabbed the win for Fayetteville. Mariggi (1-0) pitched a scoreless tenth with one strikeout.

The Steamers jumped out to a three-run lead in the second. A two-out walk to Tony Rosselli started the rally. Brandon Gragilla followed with a single and Andrew Hinckley added an RBI double to get the Clams on the board. Ben Prada rolled a single up the first-base line that hit the bag, allowing Gragilla and Hinckley to score and put Edenton up 3-0.

The Teal and Black scratched across another run in the fourth. Rosselli walked for the second time to start the inning. Gragilla bounced a ball to second base in the next at bat, and David Summerfield's errant throw at second allowed Rosselli to advance to third. Prada cracked his second single of the game to score Rosselli and give the Steamers a 4-0 lead.

The SwampDogs charged all the way back with four runs in the seventh. Tyler Tharp, Jack Conley and Trey Vickers all singled to start the frame, plating one run and putting runners on the corners with no outs. Pinch hitter Logan Corrigan cracked a double to right-center scored two more. Summerfield's groundout in the next at bat put the tying run on third, and Fayetteville evened up the score when a pitch got past Thatcher Coleman behind the plate.

Neither teamed added to their total in the final two innings, but it only took one extra inning to determine a winner. Beattie walked the first two SwampDogs in the tenth, and a perfectly placed bunt by Conley loaded the bases. Two batters later, Frankie Jezioro bunted in the winning run on a suicide squeeze.

The Edenton Steamers return home for five consecutive road games, beginning with the Wilmington Sharks on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. For more information fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
