Sharks Beat Hi-Toms 6-1 on Friday Night

The Wilmington Sharks picked up a 6-1 win in five innings on Friday night over the High-Point Thomasville Hi-Toms in a game that was shortened by rain. Beau Dees was the winning pitcher for Wilmington, he threw five innings and gave up one run on four hits and struck out two to improve his record to 2-0.

The Wilmington Sharks got the bats rolling in the top of the second inning when Alex Perez hit a two RBI double with two outs to score Tyler Slaton and Leighton Daniels to give the Sharks an early 2-0 lead.

The bats stayed hot in the top of third inning for Wilmington as they picked up two more runs when Slaton picked up an RBI double to score Cody Dolan to give the Sharks 3-0 lead. In the same inning, Daniels hit a single up the middle to score Slaton to extend the Sharks lead 4-0.

The Hi-Toms were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double off the bat of Mike White to score Kyle Brandenburg to cut into the Sharks lead 4-1.

Zach Stephens extended the Sharks lead in the sixth inning with a two run blast over the left center field fence, his third home run of the year and gave the Sharks a 6-1 lead.

The game was eventually called due to rain after a hour and a half rain delay as the sharks improve to 13-12 and the Hi-Toms drop to 13-15.

The Wilmington Sharks will return back on home on Saturday evening as they take on the Wilson Tobs at Buck Hardee with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.

The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1000 alumni drafted and 62 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their major league debut so far.
