Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Friday that rookie defensive back Keiron Jones has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 26-year-old Jones (5'9", 180) returns to the Sharks after competing with the team during training camp prior to the start of this season. Jones saw action in Jacksonville's preseason scrimmage against the Tampa Bay Storm on March 2, intercepting a pass in that contest.

Prior to begininning his professional career, Jones played defensive back at Southeastern Louisiana University. As a senior in 2011, Jones finished fifth on his team with 57 total tackles (16 solo), adding two tackles for loss, two interceptions and five passes defended. Jones saw action in every one of the Lions' games over his final three seasons at the school, working mostly on special teams in 2009 before starting in the secondary as a junior and senior.

A native of New Orleans, Jones attended Grace King High School in Metairie, Louisiana.

The Sharks also announced Friday that defensive back Terrance Smith has been placed on injured reserve. Following the transactions, the Jacksonville roster remains at the League maximum of 24 active players.
