Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
On Thursday afternoon, Marlins Strikezone a light hearted television show that is put on by the Florida Marlins came to Roger Dean Stadium. Their actor named Stephie pretended to be signed by the Hammerheads and they needed some player's assistance in making the shoot work. Some Hammerheads volunteered to be on the base paths and in the dugout, while others wanted to continue watching TV as Stephie watched along with them.
When the footage was complete on the field, the producer asked to speak to a pitcher on camera. I immediately thought of the tall left-handed pitcher from Snellville, GA Adam Brandenburg. Once you get to know Adam, you learn quickly that he will never shy away from a camera. With his humor and fun personality it makes perfect sense why when he played for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League, his teammates called him "Kodak".
After he spoke his few lines on camera, I told him I hoped he enjoyed his 30 seconds of fame. Brandenburg was quick to point out that I must have missed his other Academy Award winning performances. While I may have made that part up, it was not Brandenburg's first time in front of the lens. When he was between the ages of 10-13, Adam was demonstrating how to hit a baseball in tutorial form. The footage could be found on www.coachquest.net.
His next star roll came in the movie called Past The Bleachers. Brandenburg said he did not have any speaking parts in the movie, but he played first base in the movie and was shown when there were meetings on the mounds. Richard Dean Anderson, who played MacGyver was also in the 1995 film.
Brandenburg started off an outfielder and he loved to hit. He went to Kennesaw State University where he eventually became a pitcher. Two weeks ago, Brandenburg got the opportunity to pitch in Double A Carolina. For the Mudcats, Adam made two appearances totaling four innings. He allowed one run and two hits. He told me one of the biggest differences playing in Double A is the attendance. "When we played in Jacksonville, they had around 8,000 fans a game." It's a much different atmosphere then here in the Florida State League.
While it was sad to see Adam leave for a while, his local fans and teammates are glad to have him back. Soon enough he will enjoy more time in Carolina and beyond, but for now he can enjoy being in the spotlight of the Hammerheads bullpen. No matter where he is playing he will be looking for that next opportunity to either find a camera or make it to the next level.
