Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster JetHawks capitalized on two critical Rancho Cucamonga errors on Thursday evening, as they downed the Quakes by a final of 7-2 at The Hangar.
The loss completes a 3-5 road trip for the Quakes, as they dropped three of four to Lancaster to finish one of their longest road trips of the season.
Jacob Scavuzzo's RBI single gave Rancho a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning against JetHawks' starter David Paulino.
That lead was short-lived though, as Lancaster responded with a pair of unearned runs against Quakes' starter Scott Barlow. The Rancho right-hander, who had won his last three starts, didn't do himself any favors in the inning, as he walked the first three hitters of the inning. But after the first two free-passes, Barlow induced Ronnie Mitchell into a pop-up in foul territory on the first-base side. First baseman Spencer Navin failed to call off catcher Tyler Ogle, who was forced to make a running catch up the line. Ogle couldn't secure it though, as the ball fell to the ground, allowing Mitchell's at-bat to continue, which led to Barlow's third straight walk. Barlow rebounded to retire Chase McDonald, but allowed a sacrifice fly to Mott Hyde, tying the game at 1-1. Jamie Ritchie followed with a two-out single, chasing home J.D. Davis to put Lancaster in front for good at 2-1.
Barlow (7-3) was removed after four innings, replaced by A.J. Vanegas, who also suffered from some bad defense behind him. With one out, Alex Bregman reached on a throwing error by shortstop Nate Samson. Bregman would later score on a two-out hit by Davis, making it 3-1. Mitchell followed with an RBI triple, plating Davis for a 4-1 advantage for Lancaster.
Paulino (1-1) was strong in earning his first Lancaster win, allowing just one run on two hits over seven innings of work.
The JetHawks put an insurance run on the board in the seventh, as Alex Bregman doubled home James Ramsay against new Quakes' reliever Jose Molina, making it 5-1.
Rancho put together a good rally, but only produced one run in the eighth. JetHawks reliever Kevin Comer allowed the Quakes to load the bases with one out, but Kyle Garlick's sac fly was the only run that the Quakes were able to push across, making it 5-2. Cody Bellinger popped up to end the threat, keeping the tying run at the plate.
The JetHawks rounded out the scoring against Karch Kowalczyk in the eighth, as James Ramsay doubled in a pair to make it 7-2.
The Quakes' offense, which put up ten runs on 14 hits in Wednesday's win, was held to just two runs on three hits.
The Quakes (30-30, 71-58) will finally head home on Friday night, opening a three-game set against the San Jose Giants at LoanMart Field. Friday night's opener will feature Rob Rogers (5-4) making his first start of the year for the Quakes, as he'll take on Giants' right-hander Martin Agosta (4-8), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
Friday's home stand opener will feature Family RV $1 Family Feast at LoanMart Field, as fans will be able to enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches for all just one dollar each. A limited number of tickets remain for Friday's series opener, but can currently be purchased online at rcquakes.com, or beginning at 10am on Friday morning, by calling (909) 481-5000.
