Blaze Drop Suddenly Rare Pitchers' Duel, 4-1
August 28, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
A split would have to suffice, as the Bakersfield Blaze could not continue their offensive surge on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield, and the Visalia Rawhide used three homers to push far enough ahead, forcing a series split in the two teams' final season meeting with a final score of 4-1.
For the first time in the series, the Blaze did not score in the 1st inning. And for the first time in the series, the Rawhide took the first lead. It came in the 3rd inning.
With Scott DeCecco (L, 2-3) on the hill and one out, the Rawhide got a single and back-to-back homers to grab a 3-0 lead.
The Blaze got one back in the home half of the frame, when Daniel Torres reached on an error and later scored on one of Aaron Barbosa's three singles in the ballgame.
But that is all the Blaze would get off Rawhide starter Markus Solbach (W, 2-1), the German-born righthander. Solbach surrendered an additional four singles in his six innings of work, and the Blaze got just one more runner as far as second base through his innings.
The starters both departed after six frames, and the bullpens each put up three zeroes. Aaron Brooks struck out five in his two innings for the Blaze, and Rafael Pineda worked a quick 9th. On the home half of the scoreboard, the Rawhide paraded three relievers for one inning apiece to finish it off. Steve Hathaway and Myles Davis worked the 7th and 8th, and Nick Sarianides (S, 24) pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.
With the homestand in the rear view, the Blaze set out on the road for a weekend set in High Desert before the final off-day of the season on Monday. On Tuesday, the Blaze open up the final homestand of the season (oh no!).
Fans can listen to all three games in Adelanto online at BakersfieldBlaze.com or via the TuneIn Radio app. Dan Besbris has the call.
