KEARNEY, Neb. - After three seasons with the team, Tri-City Storm play-by-play broadcaster and Director of Media Relations Jared Shafran has accepted a new position with Ferris State University as an Athletics Communications Associate. In his new role, Shafran will serve as the voice of Ferris State hockey while working in the Athletic Communications office.
"I'm thankful to Kirk Brooks and his family, along with the entire Tri-City Storm organization for allowing me to pursue my dream for the last three years," said Shafran. "I've had an amazing experience working with all the players, coaches, staff and everyone in the USHL."
The 26-year-old called over 200 games as the club's voice and was chosen as a finalist in the 2015 FastHockey Broadcaster Battle this spring. Shafran was also chosen to host the USHL Draft Show in both 2014 and 2015, served as the rinkside reporter for the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Dubuque and was the lead interviewer for USHL interviews at the NHL Draft each of the last two years.
At Ferris State, Shafran will play a key role in developing video and multimedia content along with social media messaging for all 17 of Ferris State's athletic programs. He'll also oversee video board production and operation while assisting in media relations, marketing and promotional functions in addition to broadcast and communications initiatives.
As the play-by-play voice of Ferris State Hockey, Shafran will call the action this coming season for the program's flagship FM radio station along with FSU's live audio and video streaming package.
The search for Shafran's replacement is already ongoing, and the Storm will look to bring another experienced voice into the fold.
All Tri-City games will continue to air on Platte River Radio, with The Breeze, 94.5 FM as the flagship station for the Storm Hockey.
The Storm will kick off their 16th season at the Viaero Event Center on September 25 when they take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:30 p.m. 2015-16 season tickets are on sale now. Call 308.338.8011 to reserve your seats.
