Inland Empire 66ers News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.- With Manny Ramirez in the lineup for the second straight night, Inland Empire starting pitcher Tim Sexton stole the show, pitching an eight inning gem as the Sixers took a 4-1 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Sunday evening in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,424 at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.
Sexton (3-8, 3.01) pitched a solid 8 innings, striking out 6 and walking 1 while giving up the lone Quakes run.
Ramirez, in his second game with the Sixers, went 0-for-2 on the night with a walk and two strikeouts after going 2-for-2 with a homer Saturday. Ramirez played in left field through the sixth inning before Preston Mattingly pinch hit for him after three plate appearances.
Inland Empire scored three of their four runs in the fourth off Quakes starter Alexander Torres, who had allowed two earned runs in his last 40 1/3 innings and carried a 19 inning scoreless streak into the inning. Pedro Baez opened the inning with a walk and one pitch later Steven Caseres slammed his 11th homer over the wall in right center. Later in the inning with Scott Van Slyke on third and Alex Garabedian on first, Christian Lara bunted back to Torres (5-3, 3.05) who threw wildly to his catcher Alberto Rosario as Van Slyke scored from third.
Jeremy Moore went 3-for-4 for the Quakes, scored a run and finished the night a home run shy of the cycle.
The 66ers added one more insurance run in the sixth when Garabedian and Mattingly reached on walks and Elian Herrera drove home Garabedian from second on a single to right.
Herrera, Caseres, and Van Slyke each finished with multiple hits. Herrera tied a career-high with four hits; Caseres was 2-for-3, and Van Slyke 3-for-4.
David Pfeiffer, just reactivated from the disabled list, pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save on the year.
