Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - A pitchers' duel broke out at the Hangar on Saturday night, and Chris Hicks came out on top. The righthander went seven innings and got his team-leading sixth win, allowing just one earned run on four hits. With the 3-1 victory, the JetHawks won the opening series of the second half over the Ranch Cucamonga Quakes.
Quakes starter Jeremy Thorne was also impressive; he lasted six and two thirds innings and allowed all three JetHawks runs on five hits.
The Quakes struck first in the game, when Julio Perez hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the third inning to score Ryan Kiniry, who led off the frame with a walk. Lancaster tied it in the fourth on a sacrifice fly on their own, off the bat of Koby Clemens.
Marcos Cabral got the go-ahead run home on an infield single deep into the hole between shortstop and third. T.J. Steele had led off the inning with a walk, and Clemens followed a walk. After a double play, Cabral got the clutch hit that proved decisive in the win.
Fernando Abad came on to pitch the last two innings and record his first save of the season. He yielded just one hit and struck out two. No JetHawks had more than one hit, and the club managed only five on the evening.
The JetHawks are off to Stockton tomorrow night to begin a three game set at 6:00 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard on Magic 1340 and www.jethawks.com beginning at 5:45 PM.
