Seven Wave Players on U.S. Futsal Trip to Brazil
September 13, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Wave and U.S. National Futsal Team Coach Keith Tozer has named seven Milwaukee players to the U.S. squad for an upcoming trip to Brazil September 12-19. Included on the 14-man roster are forwards Greg Howes and Todd Dusosky, midfielder Johnny Torres, defenders Pat White, Chris Morman and Troy Dusosky, and goalkeeper Nick Vorberg. Kansas City Comets forward Jamar Beasley, who played with the Wave United outdoor squad this past season, is also listed on the roster comprised exclusively of Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) players.
The trip will provide an opportunity for the U.S. team to prepare for the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Championship, to be held in Chinese Taipei November 21-December 5. Highlighting the five-game exhibition tour will be a pair of match-ups with the Brazilian National Futsal Team, considered by many to be the best team in the world. The U.S. will take on Brazil in Campo Grande September 17-18 after playing three matches against club teams in Sao Paolo (September 13-14).
"This should be an excellent training opportunity for our squad," said Tozer. "The Brazilians are the class of the world. They're certainly going to be the favorites going into the World Championship so we'll get a good indication of how we measure up against them."
Eight players on the current roster were part of the U.S. squad which captured the CONCACAF Championship July 19-31 in Heredia, Costa Rica. The U.S. title in the CONCACAF tournament clinched a spot for the U.S. in the 16-team field at Chinese Taipei. The U.S. is scheduled to play Italy, Paraguay, and Japan in first round action at the FIFA tournament.
