
Seven Snakes Headed to All-Star Game

The Golden Baseball League announced today the North and South Division All-Star teams that will compete against each other on Tuesday July 14th at 7:00 PM MDT in St. George, Utah.
The Calgary Vipers will have seven representatives on the North Division squad including Manager Morgan Burkhart who will also act as manager for the All-Star Team. Burkhart is in his first season as manager with the Vipers after being the hitting coach for two years.
Six Snake players will join their manager as Nelson Castro, Fehlandt Lentini, Jorge Mejia, Drew Miller, Colin Moro, and Joe Sergent have all been selected.
Castro will start at shortstop and for the third straight season he has been named a league All-Star. Castro this season is currently third in the league in both batting average (.401) and runs batted in (40). He is also fourth in stolen bases (13), fifth in home runs (6), sixth in runs scored (32), seventh in slugging percentage (.599) and tenth in on-base percentage (449).
Lentini will start in centerfield and is an all-star for the fourth straight year. Lentini leads the league in runs scored (49), hits (62), and doubles (17). He is also second in batting average (.405), fourth in slugging percentage (.641), fifth in triples (2), eighth in on-base percentage (.452), and ninth in home runs (5).
Mejia is the utility reserve on the squad and has now been a GBL all-star in back-to-back season. Mejia leads the league with three triples, is sixth in the league in batting average (.375), seventh in runs scored (31), and eighth in runs batted in (31).
Miller will start in the outfield and for the third straight season he has been named a league All-Star. Miller leads the league in on-base percentage (.497), second in slugging percentage (.670) and hit by pitches (10), third in home runs (8), fifth in runs scored (34), seventh in walks (21), tenth in runs batted in (29), and eleventh in batting average (.365).
Moro is making his first professional all-star game appearance after being named GBL Rookie of the Year last season. Moro is fifth in the league in on-base percentage (.466) and hit by pitches (6), sixth in batting average (.375), and ninth in slugging percentage (.554).
Sergent makes his first GBL All-Star game appearance and is first in the league in starts (9) and complete games (2), second in innings pitched (55.2), fourth in opponents slugging percentage (.336), sixth in earned run average (3.23) and strikeouts (43), seventh in opponents on-base percentage (.308), eighth in batting average against (.265), and eleventh in wins (3).
